Tivoli Ballet School International Summer Intensive 2020 in collaboration with Canadas National Ballet School
3. - 8. august 2020, Age 12-15

We are honoured to announce the 2020 Summer Intensive at Tivoli Ballet School in collaboration with Canadas National Ballet School taking place in Tivoli, Copenhagen from 3. August to 15. August 2020. Ages 12-20.

This registration applies to the first week of the summer intensive for the age group 12-15.

The distinguished teaching staff from Canadas National Ballet School includes Deborah Hess, Vera Timashova, Alexander Gorbatsevich, Young Joo Lee and Carina Bomers.

Classes are open to ballet students from age 12 to 15.

Deborah Hess

Deborah Hess is an internationally respected ballet teacher and coach. A senior faculty member at Canada’s National Ballet School, she is also the manager of the School’s Student Exchange Program. Deborah is a frequent guest teacher in companies and schools around the world and is a sought after juror for major international ballet competitions. She is delighted to return to Tivoli Ballet School and support its mission.

A native New Yorker, her formative training was with Valentina Pereyaslavec, Kathleen Crofton and Anna-Marie Holmes. Deborah began pursuing her passion for teaching at the San Francisco Ballet School following a successful career as a dancer in which she danced a wide ranging repertoire, from Odette in Swan Lake to neo-classical works by choreographers such Bronislava Nijinska and contemporary works by choreographers such as Lar Lubovitch.

Deborah values most highly the artistic possibilities of dance and strives in her teaching to bring out the individuality of each student, highlighting musicality, generosity of spirit and dynamic range while respecting the purity of form.

Vera Timashova

 
 
Vera Timashova received her ballet training at the Novosibirsk State. Her celebrated 26-year career began as a soloist at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and continued as a principal dancer with the Moscow Theatre led by Kasatkina and Vasiliyov. She danced major classical roles in Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, The Nutcracker, and Cinderella, as well as principal roles in works by Pierre Lacotte, Alberto Alonso, Roland Petit, Maurice Bejart, and other contemporary choreographers.
As a guest artist, she traveled throughout Russia and internationally, dancing with such celebrated dancers as Plisetskaya, Maximova and Ratmansky. In recognition of her illustrious career, she received several prestigious government awards, including the honorary title of “Distinguished Artist of Russia”.
Timashova studied at the RSUTA with Kondratyeva and Semyonova, and in the Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School where she has been a valued member of the faculty since 2002, bringing to her work her profound artistic sensibilities and intimate knowledge of the art form. Today, Timashova is a sought-after guest teacher, stager and coach and is also in demand as a juror for many international competitions.
 

Alexander Gorbatsevich

 

Alexander Gorbatsevich received his ballet training at the Novosibirsk State School of Ballet. He went on to join the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre as a soloist and joined the Moscow Classical Ballet Company as a Principal Dancer in 1977. A dancer with 27 years of experience, Alexander has had an astounding performance career, with a repertoire that has included many major classical roles and numerous prestigious dance awards including first prize and a gold medal at the 11th International Ballet Competition at Varna in 1983, the Rene Blum Prize from the Paris Academy of Dance in 1984 . In 1992, Alexander completed his studies at the Russian State Academy of Theatre Art, and began his teaching career at the Moscow Classical Ballet Company. A graduate of Canada''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s National Ballet School''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s Teacher Training Program, Alexander joined the artistic staff at NBS in 2002. In his current role as National Audition Tour Manager and as a teacher in the Professional Ballet Program, Alexander continues to draw from his experiences as a professional dancer. 

Young Joo Lee

 

Young Joo Lee received her early dance training at the Sun Hwa Dance Academy in Seoul, Korea. She has an extensive dance education and holds a BA and M.P.E. in dance, both from Ewha Womans University. From 1995 to 1996, she studied the Vaganova teaching method at the Universal Ballet Academy also in Seoul, and in September 2004, joined the Teacher Training Program for professional dancers at Canadas National Ballet School.

As well as possessing an impressive dance teaching education, Young has performed professionally with the Ballet Blanc from 1989 to 1999. An artistic staff member at NBS since September 2006, she currently teaches in both the Professional Ballet Program as well as in the Teacher Training Program.

Carina Bomers

 

A graduate of the Professional Ballet/Academic Program at NBS, Carina Bomers went on to dance with the National Ballet of Canada and the Ballet Ys. Over the course of her performance career, she has toured across Canada, Europe and the United States, working with renowned dancers such as Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Veronica Tennant, Karen Kain, Erik Bruhn and Celia Franca. Carina returned to NBS for the Teacher Training Program in 1980, and has been on staff at NBS since 1983. Each year, Carina teaches at the Nordic Seminar, which involves professional ballet students from the National Finnish Opera Ballet School in Helsinki, Norwegian National Ballet School in Oslo, Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm and Swedish National Ballet School in Gothenburg.

Admission
Registration will be by application only including photos. Applicants may be required to send a short video of barre, center work and including pointe work for girls. Students are required to have a strong classical ballet technique with a proven minimum of three years of training at an advanced level.

Medical Insurance

Students must be covered by their own medical insurance. The International Summer Intensive is not responsible for any medical coverage or injury related expenses. It is required that the dancers are in good health in order to prevent injuries.

Tuition

Registration for one week - 6 days of tuition including light snack and lunch each day, and admission to Tivoli:
Early bird registration until 1. March 2020: 3000 DKK for one week

Registration after 1. March 2020: 3200 DKK for one week

What to wear

Girls: black leotards - pink tights and ballet slippers and pointe shoes. Character skirt, character shoes.

Boys: black tights - white t-shirt and white ballet slippers. Character shoes.

General information
There will be an informal showing Saturday 8. August 2020 in
Lumbye studio in Tivoli Concert Hall. There will be also be a student performance at the end of the Summer Intensive on Saturday 15. August 2020 on the open air stage of the Peacock Theatre inside Tivoli Gardens for students who attend the second week as well.

On arrival you will receive a welcome folder with necessary information about Tivoli, the locations, the city and the weekly schedule. The folder also includes an admission card for the amusement park Tivoli.

Accommodation

Copenhagen has various opportunities of accommodation and Tivoli Ballet School will gladly convey on request.
