Ailey Arts In Education Dance Residency at Tivoli Ballet School

Experience the Ailey spirit and explore dance and movement in this unique Ailey Arts in Education Dance Residency led by Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation Teaching Artists Nasha Thomas and Jonathan Lee as well as Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation Musician Matthew Hill. The residency will culminate in a performance at Tivoli´s own outdoor Peacock Theater open to the general public on Saturday 24. August 2019.
 
Oplev Ailey ånden og udforsk dans og bevægelse i denne enestående Ailey Arts in Education Dance Residency ledet af Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation Teaching Artists Nasha Thomas og Jonathan Lee samt Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation Musician Matthew Hill. Ugen afsluttes med en forestilling  på Tivolis Pantomimeteater, der er åben for alle Havens gæster lørdag 24. August 2019.

Nasha Thomas oversees Ailey Camps and designs the national outreach for Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs department. As a primary liaison between Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation and the national arts-in-education community, she plays a central role in working with local communities to develop and run AileyCamps across the U.S., as well as managing and teaching national residencies, workshops, and master classes, which reach over 1,000 young people each year. Ms. Thomas has led Ailey Arts In Education programs everywhere from public school classrooms, to Lincoln Center Plaza, to Gracie Mansion, to the White House. Chosen by Alvin Ailey, Ms. Thomas danced with the Company from 1986 to 1998. In 1980 she received the prestigious Presidential Scholar of the Arts award. Ms. Thomas is a graduate of New York High School of the Performing Arts and Southern Methodist University.
 
Jonathan Lee

Jonathan Lee has worked with various recording artists including Grammy Award winners Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Tracy Chapman, and Joe as a backup singer, dancer, and choreographer. His Film/TV credits include Fish, Chapelle’s Show, The WB Morning Show, ABC News Now, The View, and Guiding Light. Theatre credits include Once On This Island, The Wiz, West Side Story, The King & I, and Miss Saigon. He has choreographed and performed with networks such as Disney, MTV, Nickelodeon, and VH1 as well as soft drink giants Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Jonathan has also been seen or heard in several commercials, recordings, and print ads for Verizon Wireless, NIKE, Optimum Online, Texas Instruments, Wendys and WeeBee Tunes. Currently Jonathan is working on his solo debut album and teaches Hip-Hop at Alvin Ailey, Steps on Broadway and Dance New Amsterdam in NYC. Recently Jonathan has been featured in Time Out NY, Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit Magazine, and Dance Teacher Magazine.

Matthew Hill
 
 
 
Matthew Hill (Seattle, Washington) is currently a Teaching Artist and Percussionist with Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs. He began his career at Oberlin College where he received a degree in African-American Studies with a concentration in Fine Arts, and went on to receive his M.A. in African New World studies from FIU. In Oberlin, he was the musical director/lead drummer for Dance Diaspora, founder/lead drummer for Ilu Aiye, and resident musical therapist for The Lucy Idol Center for the Handicapped. In Miami he was the Musical Director for Delou Africa Dance Ensemble, resident percussionist at Club Mynt on South Beach, and percussionist/touring member of hip-hop dance theatre company D-Projects. Throughout his career Matthew has traveled and studied extensively in West Africa and Cuba, and was co-founder, along with his wife, of the Hamana Company in Boke Guinea West Africa in 2008. Currently, Mr. Hill lives in Harlem NYC and works with Bambara African Drum and Dance Ensemble (musical director Adewole Love), and Kolipe Ibrahima Camara from Ballets Africains. Mr. Hill is a teaching artist, performer, and accompanist at The Ailey School, Ailey II, Ailey Extension, Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, Ailey Camp, Ailey Camp Too, Urban Arts, and Oberlin College.
